Forest fires, encroachments and degradation are some of the major threats to the integrity of common lands. The life and livelihoods of the shepherd community who are dependent on these commons are at risk. Their livelihood pathways are never a straight line. Collective action at the local level is an effective way to address these issues. By formulating rules and regulations around the commons, they are striving to protect the commons.
